Caudle Earns Women's SoCon Runner of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State's Brittney Caudle has been honored as the women's Southern Conference Runner of the Week for her performance during the weekend of September 3-4, the league office announced today.

The sophomore art major from Middletown, Md., finished third at the Appalachian State Covered Bridge Open in a tough and deep field.  Her 5K performance of 17:58 on the Donnie Kennedy Trails helped lead the Mountaineers to a third place finish as a team.

The Mountaineers competed against teams such as Florida State, UNC-Chapel Hill and Wake Forest, along with Southern Conference foes Davidson and Elon.

Other top performers included:

Morgan Turner, a sophomore at Western Carolina, won the Western Carolina University Invitational with an all-time best performance over a two mile cross country course with a time of 11:36.  The Lincolnton, N.C., native, helped lead the Catamounts to the team title.

Dena O'Brien finished as College of Charleston's top runner in her first collegiate meet.  A freshman from Pelham, Ala., finished fourth overall at the Eye Opener Invitational with a time of 18:09, a personal best by over one minute.
