Bellissimo Earns Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Moriah Bellissimo, a sophomore volleyball player for Georgia Southern, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for September 29, the league office announced today.

The Blackstone, Va., native carries a 4.0 GPA in nutrition/food science.

Over the weekend, Bellissimo collected 27 kills in two SoCon matches.  She posted 14 against Wofford and 13 against Furman for an average of 2.70 kills per set.  She also registered 20 digs against the Terriers and 13 against the Paladins for an average of 3.30 digs per set.  Her two double-doubles marks her fourth and fifth of the season, and the 14 kills against Wofford mark a season-high.  In addition, the middle hitter had six blocks in the two matches.

Other nominees included Appalachian State football player Sam Martin, College of Charleston women's soccer player Sarah Schaidle, Davidson volleyball player Sarabeth Peele, Elon's volleyball player Sarah Schermerhorn, UNCG women's soccer player Jenn Parternheimer and Samford women's cross country runner Hillary Neal.
