SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Layton Dorsett has been honored as the men's Southern Conference Runner of the week for his performance during the weekend of September 24-25, the league office announced today.
Dorsett, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., ran number one for the Bulldogs for the first time in the Memphis Twilight. His time of 25:59.46 on the 8K course was the fastest run for a Samford athlete in cross country in two years.
The Bulldogs have a week off before they return to action on Oct. 9, when the team hosts the Samford Invitational at Veterans Park in Hoover, Ala. The meet will be a course preview for the NCAA South Regional Championships that Samford will be hosting on Nov. 13.
Other top performers include:
Christian Bailey, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., finished as College of Charleston's top runner at the Citadel Invitational. His time of 26:36 on the 8K course was good for third overall. Bailey helped lead the Cougars to a second place overall finish. Bailey is a member of the Honors College and holds a GPA of 3.929.
