UTC's Barnes Honored as Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Courtney Barnes, a senior volleyball player at Chattanooga, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for September 15, the league office announced today.

The Franklin, Tenn., native carries a 3.94 GPA in health and human performance.

Over the past week, Barnes compiled a .408 attacking percentage along with 69 kills and 18 blocks for the Lady Mocs.  Her selection to the North Florida Invitational All-Tournament team was her third honor this season, as she has taken all-tournament accolades in all three events so far this season.

At the UNF Invitational, Barnes recorded career-highs with 22 kills against Troy and with five service aces against Illinois-Chicago.  She currently leads the Lady Mocs in both kills (120) and service aces (nine) on the season.  Barnes also registered 15 blocks on the weekend.  She is now ninth all-time in Chattanooga school history with 202 total and 43 block solos.

Other nominees included Appalachian State volleyball player Meghann Forshey, The Citadel volleyball player Cassie Uribe, Davidson women's soccer player Allison Drutchas, Elon men's soccer player Clint Irwin, UNCG women's soccer player Jessi Gulledge, Samford football player Dustin Taliaferro and Wofford volleyball player Stacy Byrd.
