Cougars Finish Eighth at Cougar Classic
HANAHAN, S.C. - Freshman Kathryn Miranda (Lexington, S.C.) proved to be the most consistent Cougar, finishing the day with a 72 to end tournament play with a four-over par 220, leading the College of Charleston women's golf team to eighth with an 896 at the Cougar Classic held Sept. 12-14 at Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C.
North Carolina continued its dominance to win the Classic, firing a 290 to finish with an 860, eight strokes ahead of Mississippi, which moved all the way from a tie at 10th after the first round to finish second. The Tar Heels posted nine birdies and saw three of its players finish in the top 10, including Jackie Chang and Casey Grice, who both tied for second with a 213 each.
Miranda fired a 73, 75 and a 72 in her three rounds and posted seven birdies in her first collegiate tournament.
"The end result for us at the Cougar Classic was extremely good for us," said Head Coach Jamie Futrell. "It was a great field to play against and we feel like we competed very well this week."
Following Ole Miss in second was Oklahoma which finished third with an 872 and South Carolina which ended the day fourth with an 873. Rounding out the top five was Florida with an 875
Rebel Natalie Gleadall was tied for 38th after the first round and fought her way back with a 69 in the second round and a 67 in the third to take individual medalist honors with a five-under par 211. She posted eight birdies in the second round including two sets of three in a row. Chang and Grice tied for second with a 213 each.
For the Cougars Miranda led the way with a tie for 17th. Leigh Whittaker (Baden-Baden, Germany) tied for 26th with a 222 and tied for 53rd was Ainhoa Nogales (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain) with her 227. Kathy Boehm (Poing, Germany) tied for 74th with a 232 and tied for 93rd was Vanessa Koechli (Greer, S.C.).
Anna Martin (Easley, S.C.), competing for the Cougars as an individual, posted a solid 74 in the third round to end the tournament wit ha 250 and a tie at 86th.
The Cougars next compete at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship at Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., Sept. 24-26.

Furman Finishes 14th, Wearn 10th At Season-Opening Cougar Classic
Hanahan, S.C. - Furman's Stefanie Kenoyer notched a team-best final round of 73 to help Furman to a 14th place finish in the Cougar Classic at the par-72, 6,210-yard Yeamans Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C., on Tuesday.
The Paladins (304-297-308=909) carded a final round 308 to share 14th place with Penn State after entering Tuesday's round in 10th place. Kenoyer (74-76-73=223), a senior from Lighthouse Point, Fla., played her final 10 holes at one-under to shoot 73 and finish in a tie for 29th at seven-over. Sophomore Laura Wearn (71-69-77=217), tied for the tournament lead after 36 holes, posted a five-over 77 to settle for 10th place at one-over par.
North Carolina (285-285-290=860) claimed the tournament title finishing eight strokes ahead of second place Mississippi (300-284-284=868) with Oklahoma (293-291-288-872) grabbing third place. Mississippi's Natalie Gleadall (75-69-67=211) used a third round 67 to finish at five-under par to claim a two-stroke victory over the Tarheels' Jackie Chang (72-69-72=213) and Casey Grice (71-72-70=213).
The Paladins return to action September 26-28, when they travel to Greensboro, N.C., to take part in the UNCG Starmount Forest Fall Classic.

UNCG women's golf finishes 17th at Cougar Classic
HANAHAN, S.C. - UNCG freshman Lizzie Bundy capped off her first collegiate tournament with a team-best 73 in Tuesday's final round as the Spartans finished tied for 17t h place at the Cougar Classic on Tuesday.
Bundy bounced back from a tough round on Monday to record her second 73 of the tournament to finish tied for 53rd place. Mississippi's Natalie Gleadall rallied to win the individual title, shooting a final round 67 for a two shot win over North Carolina's Jackie Chang.
North Carolina won the team title, carding a final round 280 to win the tournament with a 54-hole total of 860. Mississippi finished second, eight shots back, followed by Oklahoma. UNCG finished with a final total of 921.
The Spartans return to action Sept. 26 when it hosts the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic.
