Furman Duo Finish Eighth At Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship
Dahlonega, Ga. ? Liz Wendt fired a final round 71 to help she and Furman teammate Stefanie Kenoyer to an eighth place finish at even par on Thursday at the Hooters Women’s Collegiate Team Championship at Achasta, by Reynolds.
Wendt, a rising junior, notched three birdies, including two on the front nine. Kenoyer carded a final round 76 to help the tandem to a three-over 147 combined score in Thursday’s combines stroke play competition.
Wake Forest’s Michelle Shinn and Cheyenne Woods rallied in the final round to claim first place honors at 14-under par while second round leaders Brooke Pancake and Jennifer Kirby of the University of Alabama settled for second at 13-under.
Furman’s second pairing of sophomores Alexa Rancourt and Laura Wearn recorded a 14th place finish at three-over par after shooting a combined 149 in final round play. Rancourt totaled two birdies on her way to a one-over 73 while Wearn registered 16 pars and two double bogeys to post a four-over 76.
Fifty-three two-person teams are competed in the 54-hole event at the par-72, 6,995-yard Jack Nicklaus signature course. The format of the tournament included alternate shot on day one, best ball on day two and aggregate score of the two-player pairs during Thursday’s final round play.

UNCGs Uremovich and Taylor finish 25th at Hooters Womens Collegiate Team Championship
DAHLONEGA, Georgia UNCGs duo of Rachel Uremovich and Courtney Taylor combined for a score of 159 in the final round of the Hooters Womens Collegiate Team Championship on Thursday to finish tied for 25th place.
A surge over the final four holes propelled the team of Cheyenne Woods and Michelle Shin from Wake Forest to a two shot victory in the inaugural Hooters Womens Collegiate Team Championship presented by the National Golf Coaches Association at Achasta, by Reynolds.
Woods walked to the 15th tee with her team down two shots, but the junior rolled in an eagle putt, while her teammate made a birdie, finally catching the pair of Brooke Pancake and Jennifer Kirby from Alabama as the two groups made their way to the 16th hole tied at 13-under-par.
Shin and Woods then dialed in the putter and drained birdies on 16 and 17 respectively, while Alabamas Pancake saw a three foot birdie putt lip out on the par 3 17th hole to send her team to the 18th down by two strokes where Woods/Shin captured the championship at 15-under-par.
Alabamas Pancake and Kirby, who led from wire-to-wire were awarded the runner-up award, finishing the tournament at 13-under-par, while Stetsons Alexandria Buelow and Lauren Cate carded a final round two-under-par to finish third overall.
Virginias Brittany Altimore and Elizabeth Brightwell entered the final round at 10-under-par, but a 3-over-par final round placed the pair in sole possession of fourth place, while Floridas Jessica Yadloczky and Evan Jensen moved up on the final day to round out the top five at 5-under-par for the championship.
Ashland Universitys Annie Miles and Erin Misheff ran away with the NCAA Division II low score of the championship, finishing 16th overall at 4-over-par, while Katie Schenfeld and Taylor Drenttel from Gustavus Adolphus University edged out Katie Maurer and Catherine Wagner from Wisconsin Eau Claire by one shot to capture the DIII/NAIA championship.
Taylor shot 76 on the day Thursday, while Uremovich carded an 83. Taylor played both sides in 38, while Uremovich went out in 40 and came back in 43.
Taylor was the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and an all-conference selection last season. The native of Gastonia, N.C finished fifth in the league in stroke average at 75.41. She recorded five Top 10 finishes in her rookie season, with four of those coming in her final six tournaments of the year. She finished fifth at the SoCon Championship in April.
Uremovich is a native of Hilton Head, S.C., who sat out this past season as a redshirt after earning all-state all four years in high school. She was the 2006 Carolinas Junior Player of the Year, winning the South Carolina Junior Girls' Match Play Championship and the Twin States' Junior Girls' Championship that year. She played earlier this summer in the Womens Amateur Public Links Championship.
SAMFORD WOMEN’S GOLF: BUTTS SHINES IN GEORGIA-FLORIDA CHALLENGE

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. --- Samford women’s golfer Sarah Butts continued her strong showing in the 30th Annual Georgia-Florida Women’s Team Matches on Thursday as the Bulldogs’ junior to be defeated former USGA Senior Women’s Amateur champion Diane Lang, 2.5-0.5, at the PGA National Resort and Spa.
Despite Butts’ second victorious outing in as many days, her Georgia squad saw its opening-round lead dissipate en route to a 29.5-24.5 setback to Team Florida following final-round action. Butts, a native of Carrollton, Ga., teamed with Margaret Shirley on Wednesday to sweep all three points from Florida’s Gennifer Mendez and Tovie St. Louis.
Team Georgia entered Thursday’s competition with a 13.5-4.5 lead, but was outscored 25-11 on the final day of the two-day affair.
Butts, who will begin her junior season at Samford in the fall, is coming off a breakout sophomore campaign in which she competed in nine tournaments for the Bulldogs. She ended last season on a high note as she earned a season-best sixth-place finish at the 2010 Southern Conference Championship. Butts finished the three-round event with a score of 227.
