Greenville, S.C. -- Furman junior Rachel Shelnutt has been named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team-of-the-Week after leading Furman to victories over USC Upstate and the University of Alabama, it was announced on Wednesday.

Shelnutt, a native of St. Simons Island, Ga., opened the week by assisting on Laura White's match-winning goal in a 5-0 victory over USC Upstate before scoring two goals and assisting on Furman's other goal in a 3-0 rout of Southeastern Conference foe Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Saturday.

The forward put the Paladins in front of the Crimson Tide in the 16th minute scoring from 10 yards out on Furman's only shot of the first half.  After delivering the assist on Martha Hall's second half goal, Shelnutt capped the scoring with a late goal to seal the victory and give Furman its first win over an SEC opponent since 2003.

Through three games, Shelnutt leads the SoCon with seven total points having scored two goals and added three assists while helping the Paladins to a 2-1-0 record.

Furman returns home on Friday to host arch-rival Clemson in a 7 p.m. contest at Stone Soccer Stadium.  Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for children.  Furman students are admitted free with their Student ID.
