Four Men's Track & Field Teams Earn All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Davidson, Furman, Chattanooga and UNCG men's track and field programs were ranked among the best in the nation academically, as the schools were four of 73 teams to earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTAFCCCA) All-Academic honors for the 2010 season on Monday.  The four SoCon schools ties the previous conference high for the most men's teams to place on the All-Academic honors list.

In order to be eligible for this award, teams must post a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better.

Davidson has earned the distinction following each season in which records are available since 2003. Davidson posted a team grade point average of 3.13 to surpass the standard of 3.00 for the honor.

Furman received the after posting a 3.04 GPA this past season.  This is marks the first time the Paladins' men's team has earned the honor.

UTC was honored for the fifth straight year by the USTAFCCA.  The Mocs posted a 3.18 team GPA this past academic year.

The Spartans had a GPA of 3.23 this past season, which was the highest mark in the SoCon and was only bested by 15 other schools in the nation.

The men's track & field teams at Indiana University and Arizona State University were named as Scholar Teams of the Year in Division I for the 2010 seasons. The squads earned the distinction as a result of being the highest-placing teams with at least a 3.00-cumulative GPA at the most recent NCAA indoor and outdoor championships, respectively.
