SoCon Announces Staff Assistants For 2010-11

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced today (July 8) the addition of three staff members for the 2010-11 year.  Kristen Gay will serve as the league's Championships & Operations Assistant while Calhoun Hipp III has been named the Media Relations Assistant for 2010-11.  Jamie Lillard has been hired to fill the league's newly created Multimedia Services Assistant position.

"All three impressed us with their work experience and eagerness to learn and contribute," said John Iamarino, Commissioner of the Southern Conference. "We think Kristen, Jamie and Calhoun will be valuable members of our team."

A member of the Western Carolina softball team the past two years, Gay will begin her duties in the SoCon office on August 2nd.  In addition to participating as a student-athlete for the Catamounts, Gay earned an apprenticeship within the WCU athletics department where she assisted with the game day operations for various sports and assisted with the planning of summer camps.

Hipp joins the Southern Conference after spending last season with the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats.  A graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., Hipp is pursuing a Master's Degree from the University of South Carolina and has assisted in the Gamecocks' media relations office the past two years.

A 2010 graduate of Wofford College, Lillard served as a marketing intern in the athletic department and was responsible for creating various multimedia presentations and assisting with special events hosted by the Terriers athletic department.  She also worked as an assistant with the Spartanburg Park Commission during the past year.

Hipp and Lillard will begin their duties on July 19.
