Greenville, S.C. ? Furman University men’s soccer coach Doug Allison has been named as part of the 2010 University of South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame Class, it was announced earlier this week by the South Carolina Lettermen’s Association.

Allison (1984-87), the Gamecocks’ all-time leader in points (158) and goals (63), was a 1987 First Team All-America selection.  He earned NSCAA All-South Region honors in 1985, ?86 and ?87 while guiding South Carolina to three NCAA Tournament appearances and a school-best 20-3-1 record in 1985.

Entering his 16th season as head coach at Furman, Allison has compiled a 200-87-24 record while leading the Paladins to eight Southern Conference regular season titles and six SoCon Tournament titles.  His .682 winning percentage ranks 13th best among all active NCAA Division I head coaches.

Along with Allison, the 2010 South Carolina Hall of Fame class includes;  Aleen Bailey (track & field), the late Weems Baskin (track & field), Ashley Edlund-Heidtke (volleyball), Kristy McPherson (women’s golf), Andrew Provence (football), John Saunders (football) and Fred Wadsworth (men’s golf).

The Hall of Fame induction dinner will be held at the Zone (south endzone of Williams-Brice Stadium) on Thursday, Sept. 16. There will be a reception at 6 p.m. followed by the induction dinner at 7. The newest Hall of Famers will also be honored at the Carolina-Furman football game on Saturday, Sept. 18.
