GREENSBORO, N.C. UNCG redshirt junior wrestler Manny Ramirez will represent his country of Puerto Rico this week as he competes in the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Ramirez, who is competing at 55 kg (121 pounds), will be in the mens senior freestyle division.
"This whole experience has opened my eyes to a whole new level that I can get to and has given me so much drive to want to win, said Ramirez. I'm going to take back that drive with me to UNCG.
This summer, Ramirez has spent time training with the Puerto Rican National Team in preparation for this even. The national team coaches held camps in Puerto Rice, Ecuador and Canada.
He earned a spot on the team by winning the World Team Trials. Also, earlier this month Ramirez finished in fourth place at the Canada Cup Wrestling Championship as he represented Puerto Rico.
The Central American and Caribbean Games is a multi-sport regional championships that is held every four years. This marks the third time that Puerto Rico has hosted the games.
