Richard Jones Named Northwest League Player of the Week

Charleston, S.C. - Former Bulldog Richard Jones has been named offensive player of the week in the Northwest League.

Jones, who played catcher at The Citadel, is now playing first base for the Boise Hawks, the class-A short season affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.

Last week, Jones hit .467 (14-for-30) with four doubles, a triple, a home run, 11 RBI, scored fours, drew a walk and stole a base. He knocked in at least one run in each game from Tuesday to Sunday, putting together three multiple-RBI games on the week. Over the course of two games on Wednesday and Thursday, he had six hits -- including a homer and a pair of doubles -- and collected a stolen base, four RBI and two runs scored. He was a homer shy of the cycle on Saturday, driving in three runs and twice crossing the plate himself in that game.

In 30 games played with the Hawks this season, the Sumter, S.C. native is hitting .322 to go with 13 runs and 10 doubles. He leads the team with four homers and with 25 RBI.

Chris Swauger Promoted to Double-A

Charleston, S.C. - Former Bulldog outfielder Chris Swauger was promoted to the Springfield Cardinals, the double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend.

Swauger was called up from the Palm Beach Cardinals, the class-A advanced affiliate of St. Louis, where he began the 2010 season. The Odessa, Fla. native batted .294 with 22 runs scored, 13 doubles, four homers and 26 RBI before being promoted.

In four games played for Springfield so far, Swauger is batting .313 (5-for-16) with a pair of runs, two doubles and two triples to go with two RBI.
