SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced that Dr. Roger Brown, Chancellor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, has been named the chairman of the league's Council of Presidents for the 2010-11 year. Dr. Andrew Westmoreland, President of Samford University, was named the vice chairman of the Council of Presidents.
Brown and Westmoreland will begin their one-year term as effective July 1.
The 15th leader of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Brown was appointed Chancellor at UTC in February of 2006. Under Brown's leadership, the campus has experienced record enrollment growth at all levels, including the enrollment milestone of surpassing 10,000 students in 2009. Since taking the helm of the Chattanooga campus, he has promoted UTC's mission as a metropolitan university with special emphasis in the fields of science, mathematics, and technology. Brown has pledged the campus' commitment to teacher preparation, healthcare professions, business and commerce, and cultural appreciation.
Westmoreland became the 18th president of Samford University on June 1, 2006. Prior to his selection as president by the Samford Board of Trustees, he served eight years as president of Ouachita Baptist University, and on the administrative staff for more than 19 years in various capacities, including Vice President for Development and Executive Vice President.
