Eleven Southern Conference baseball players were selected in the first two days of the Major League Baseball Draft, including nine pitchers.
Following Asher Wojciechowski’s selection in the supplemental first round on Monday evening, College of Charleston reliever Heath Hembree was the first league player chosen on Tuesday, a fifth-round pick of the San Francisco Giants.
Elon led all schools with three on the day, all pitchers (Jimmy Reyes, Thomas Girdwood and Daniel Britt).
Furman’s Brian Harrison, a third baseman, was the position player taken from the SoCon at 392 overall in the 13th round by the New York Mets.
The Draft concludes on Wednesday with rounds 31-50, beginning at noon ET.
