Paladins' Gilmer Earns Academic All-District Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Furman sophomore Lee Gilmer has been selected to the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 3 Men's Track/Cross Country Team, as announced today by the Academic All-America Committee.  As a member of the all-district first team, Gilmer will now be placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Gilmer, a native of Mobile, Ala., has maintained a 3.92 GPA and is a double major in philosophy and history.  Last week he placed 35th in the 1500m competition with a time of 3:52.23 at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Regional.  He was chosen the Southern Conference Runner of the Week earlier this season after registering a time of 4:04.40 in the Blue Shoes Elite Mile, which was held in conjunction with the Furman Invitational. He broke the school record in the event, a mark that had stood for 35 years.

Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America programs are conducted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.
