DES MOINES, IOWA- Two Appalachian State University women’s track and field athletes represented the Black and Gold over the past week at the 2010 USATF junior nationals in Des Moines, Iowa, as both freshman Gayshawna Watkins (Forest City, N.C./East Rutherford) and senior Danielle Thorpe (Durham, N.C./Jordan) were in action.

Watkins competed in the shot put, and came in 16th out of 23 opponents with a toss of 45-1.

Thorpe looked to close out her senior season in style as she was in action in the senior women’s triple jump. The Durham, North Carolina native leapt 40-8.25 in the event, placing her 16th overall.

Thorpe graduates ASU with a slew of honors and championships, as she won three outdoor Southern Conference championships in the triple jump and set a new conference record in the event in 2010.
