Indianapolis, Ind. - The Citadel's Everette Sands is one of twenty coaches from across the country that has been selected to the 2010 NCAA Expert Coaches Football Academy in Anaheim, Calif. from June 22-24.

Sands, a four-time All-Southern Conference selection at running back at The Citadel, is set to begin his sixth season as Running Backs coach with the Bulldog football team this fall. The Conway, S.C. native and Citadel Hall of Fame inductee is second all-time on the Bulldogs' rushing chart with 3,296 yards and second in scoring with 204 points on 34 touchdowns.

The Academy is used in an effort to assist the coaches with career advancement, networking and exposure opportunities at NCAA colleges and universities and is being held in conjunction with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention.

The Expert Coaches Academy is an NCAA program that addresses the critical shortage of ethnic minorities in head coaching positions in the sport of college football, primarily at the Division I level.   The NCAA hosts its program on the heels of a rise in the number of minority head football coaches following the 2009 season.   Last season, there were nine head coaches of minority descent out of the 119 Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools.  

Expert Academy programming covers the areas of communications, fiscal responsibilities, building a successful program, compliance considerations and academic issues.

The NCAA created its Coaching Academies in 2004.
