Wojciechowski Named to ABCA All-Region and All-American Teams
Charlottesville, Va. - The Citadel's Asher Wojciechowski picked up another national award on Thursday when he was named to both the American Baseball Coaches Association's All-Atlantic Region Team as well as the 2010 All-America team.
Wojciechowski was named to the first team of the All-Atlantic Region Team, joining College of Charleston's Matt Leeds and Wofford's Mac Doyle as the only players from the Southern Conference. He also made the third team All-America list, making it the fifth different publication that Wojciechowski has earned national All-America status.
The Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year became the highest draft pick in the history of The Citadel baseball program in early June when he was selected by the Toronto with the 41st overall pick in the supplemental first round.
The junior hurler went 12-3 in 17 starts in 2010 and threw 125.2 innings with an ERA of 3.58. The right-hander's 155 strikeouts are the most in Division I this season and were the third most in school history in a single season. His 12 wins in 2010 are tied for the most in school history. The Bulldog ace threw three complete games and had seven double-digit strikeout performances this season.
Wojciechowski has earned numerous national awards already the season as he was named to Collegiate Baseball's All-America second team, the Ping! Baseball All-America second team, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association second team and Baseball America's third team All-America list.
He earned two SoCon Pitcher of the Week awards this season. Last summer, the Beaufort High School graduate pitched for the U.S. National Team and went 2-1 with an ERA of 2.18 in five appearances and 20.2 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts.
"Wojo" finishes with a career mark of 20-7 and an ERA of 4.05 and 308 career strikeouts, the third most in school history.

Mountaineer Duo Grabs All-Region Honors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ? Appalachian State University second baseman Wes Hobson (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) and relief pitcher Chris Patterson (Laurinburg, N.C./Scotland County) both earned second-team ABCA/Rawlings all-Atlantic Region recognition from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Thursday.
The ABCA’s Atlantic Region is comprised of teams from the college baseball hotbeds of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Appalachian was one of only five schools with multiple all-Atlantic Region selections, joining national powers Georgia Tech, Virginia, Coastal Carolina and Miami (Fla.).
Hobson enjoyed the most productive season of his record-breaking career as a senior this spring, winning the Southern Conference batting title with a .404 average. He also ranked among the conference leaders with 95 hits, a school-record 69 runs scored, 22 doubles, 11 home runs, 54 RBI, a .655 slugging percentage, .474 on-base percentage and 17 stolen bases en route to third-team all-America and first-team all-state and all-conference accolades.
In 206 career games, Hobson hit .362 and set ASU all-time records with 318 hits, 879 at-bats, 223 runs, 78 doubles and 504 total bases.
He was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 40th round of this month’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft and began his professional career earlier this week with the Arizona Giants of the rookie-level Arizona League.
After setting up for all-American Zach Quate as a junior, Patterson established himself as the SoCon’s premier closer in 2010. His SoCon-best 13 saves broke his predecessor’s year-old school record of 11 and led the nation for much of the season. He finished his senior campaign with a 4-4 record, 1.67 ERA, .213 opponents’ batting average and 60 strikeouts in 29 appearances. He surrendered just eight earned runs on 34 hits and walked only 13 over 43 innings of work.
Patterson was especially impressive in 26 regular-season appearances, going 3-2 with a 0.96 ERA, .182 opponents’ batting average and 55 strikeouts. He allowed just 25 hits and four earned runs and issuing only nine walks in 37.1 innings en route to first-team all-conference recognition.
He was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 26th round of the MLB Draft and has begun his professional career with the nearby Johnson City Cardinals of the rookie-level Appalachian League.
After not having a member of the all-region team in 20 years, four Mountaineers have earned the honor over the past two seasons. Quate and third baseman Isaac Harrow were all-region honorees in 2009.
Leeds Named ABCA Third Team All-America, Nabs First Team All-Atlantic Region
CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston sophomore 3B Matt Leeds (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage) has been named to the 2010 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-America Third Team and also garnered 2010 ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Team First Team honors.
Leeds, the 2010 Southern Conference Player of the Year, led the Cougars with 21 home runs and 88 RBI, while batting .326 and adding 23 doubles. The 88 RBI set a new school and conference single-season record and has him currently ranked 2nd in the nation in that category.
The Cougars finished the season with a 44-19 record, reaching the championship of the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional before falling to host Coastal Carolina 11-10 in 10 innings.
The ABCA All-America teams are collegiate baseball's oldest selections, dating to 1949. All Division I coaches have the opportunity to nominate and vote on these selections, which are initially compiled into eight All-Region teams. These teams are then finalized as the first, second and third All-America teams by the ABCA's NCAA Division I All-America and Coach of the Year Committee, chaired by Dean Ehehalt of Monmouth University (N.J.). This year, the committee selected 64 players as 2010 ABCA All-Americans.
Wofford’s Mac Doyle Named To ABCA/Rawlings All-America Second Team
SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Wofford College designated hitter Mac Doyle has been named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-America second team. In addition, he earned All-Atlantic Region first team honors. He is only the second Wofford baseball player to earn All-America honors, joining Brandon Waring who earned first team honors in 2007.
Doyle, a sophomore from Conway, South Carolina, was second on the team with a .377 batting average and was the team leader with 16 home runs. His 75 RBIs led the team and set a new school single-season record. Among conference leaders, he was second in total bases, first in slugging percentage, second in doubles, first in triples, fourth in batting average, third in RBIs and fourth in home runs.
Among Southern Conference players, Doyle is one of only three players named All-American. Pitcher Asher Wojciechowski (The Citadel) and third baseman Matt Leeds (College of Charleston) earned third team All-America honors.
Blackburn Named ABCA All-Atlantic Region
Kyle Blackburn led the Eagles in six offensive categories for the 2010 season.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The American Baseball Coaches Association has announced the 2010 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA All-Atlantic Region Team as well as the 2010 All-America teams and Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. Georgia Southern senior first baseman Kyle Blackburn was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Second Team.
Blackburn (Marietta, Ga.) finished his senior campaign leading the team in six offensive categories including batting average (.353), home runs (17), RBI (76), total bases (148), slugging percentage (.661) and walks (45). For his career, Blackburn hit .325 with 514 at-bats in four seasons. He collected 167 hits, 40 home runs and 142 RBI. His career slugging percentage was .623 and with only five fielding errors, Blackburn posted a .990 fielding percentage.
The Atlantic Region was well represented at the national level, as 12 of its First-Team All-Region players also were named to one of the three ABCA All-America teams, including three on the first team (UCF outfielder Chris Duffy, Miami catcher Yasmani Grandal, Virginia starting pitcher Danny Hultzen).
Georgia Tech led all Atlantic Region schools with four all-region picks. Coastal Carolina and Virginia each had three recipients, while Appalachian State and Miami posted two honorees apiece. Virginia had two All-America honorees to lead the region's schools.
