CHATTANOOGA, TENN. - University of Tennessee at Chattanooga graduate Jenaya Wade-Fray will continue her basketball career as she represents Great Britain on the Standard Life Senior Team as they look to qualify for the Eurobasket Championship which will be held in Poland in 2011.
Wade-Fray spent much of her life in the United States as a resident of Madison, Ala., where she attended Bob Jones High School. However, she was born in St. George's, Bermuda, where her parents still reside. Bermuda is the oldest, most populous remaining British Territory and St. George's is the oldest, most continuously inhabited English town in the Americas.
On Memorial Day, Wade-Fray left for Scotland to begin practicing at the Stirling facility and play will begin June 26 against Bulgaria in Pravets, Bulgaria in a three-game set. GB Standard Life will head back to Great Britain to host Portugal in a pair of games in mid-July before heading out to Belgium, Holland and Israel for the remaining preliminary games.
The team will then take on the Slovak Republic, Ukraine and Germany in six games beginning Aug. 14 both at home and on the road. In Great Britain the games will be played in Birmingham, Surrey University and Echo Arena in Liverpool. On the road, the games will be contested in Wolfenbuttel, Germany, Slovak Republic and Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine.
GB Standard Life will be led by Tom Maher who has an impressive coaching pedigree at club and international level, leading Australia, New Zealand and China to Olympic Games - including a silver and bronze for Australia in 2000 and 1996 respectively and a fourth place finish for China in Beijing in 2008.
The roster includes a mixture of experience and emerging talent ahead of what will be a tough campaign where they will play Slovak Republic, Germany and Ukraine home and away. I have now been in the position long enough to enable me to assess the roster and work out what I needed to bring in for the forthcoming campaign. I think the balance we have between experience and emerging talent should provide us with the correct mix for what will be a challenging summer programme.
"We have brought the roster in earlier than usual so we can get as much time together before the games get underway. This is an important summer for the team, so we need to be 100% prepared for what is going to be an intensive summer of basketball" continued Maher.
It was announced last week that for the first time, the Standard Life men's and women's team will stage two double headers in Birmingham and Liverpool on the 14 and 26 August.
The 2010 graduate of UTC put her stamp on the UTC and Southern Conference record books in both scoring and assists. She became the 24th member of the Lady Mocs 1,000 point club and closed out her career ranked 12th overall with 1,251 points.
In 3-point shooting, Wade-Fray closed out her career ranked third both at UTC and in the Southern Conference with 214. She finished in the Chattanooga top 10 for assists with 280.
Wade-Fray played 131 games for Chattanooga, the most of any UTC player and started 98 over her four-year career. She had more than 600 rebounds from the guard position and had 134 steals.
She is a two-time All-Conference athlete and two-time all-SoCon Tournament performer. She was tabbed to guard the opponents top athlete and was the 2010 recipient of the "Best Defense" team award at this year's banquet.
