Elon's Campbell Signs Pro Deal With Baltimore Mariners

BALTIMORE, Md. ? Former Elon University defensive lineman Andre Campbell has signed a contract to play professionally for the Baltimore Mariners of the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA).

"I am extremely happy for Andre," said Elon head coach Pete Lembo. "The light switch really flipped on for him the summer before his senior season and he went on to have a great year in 2009. His passion to continue playing has never been stronger and I am pleased that he is getting this opportunity."

The Mariners are gearing up for an AIFA Playoff run and have clinched a playoff bye and Eastern Conference title with a perfect 12-0 record. Campbell will suit up for the Mariners’ final two regular-season contests (June 19 and 26) before the team plays its first playoff game on July 10.

A first-team All-Southern Conference selection this season, Campbell recorded 40 tackles, including 16.0 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks, during his senior campaign. He started all 12 contests for the Phoenix, helping the team to its first-ever FCS Playoff appearance.

In his four seasons in the maroon and gold, Campbell amassed 90 total tackles. Of those, 20.5 were for a loss and there were 11.5 sacks in 44 games.
