More SoCon Players Chosen on Final Day of MLB Draft

After 11 Southern Conference baseball players were selected in the first two days of the Major League Baseball Draft, 12 more players heard their name called on day three, giving the league 23 selections in this year’s 50-round draft.

 

Following Asher Wojciechowski’s selection in the supplemental first round on Monday evening, College of Charleston reliever Heath Hembree was the first league player chosen on Tuesday, a fifth-round pick of the San Francisco Giants.

 

Elon led all SoCon schools with six selections, followed by five from College of Charleston and three each from The Citadel and Georgia Southern.

 

Of the 23 players chosen, 15 were pitchers while were tabbed as second basemen.

 

The SoCon baseball teams wrapped up another successful season last week as a record three teams advanced to the NCAA Championships.
