Chattanooga Women’s Golf in 14th Heading into Final Round

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- Junior Christine Wolf led the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s golf team with a second round 70 (-2) to stand tied for 10th at the NCAA East Regional at Ironwood Country Club.  Chattanooga is in 14th overall after Friday’s 301 gives it a two-day total of 594.

 

Wolf’s 70 was aided by three birdies and 14 pars.  It ties her career-low, which she has carded twice before.  If the Mocs do not advance as a team, Wolf is in position to move on as an individual as the top eight teams and top two individuals not on advancing teams continue on to the NCAA Championship.

 

No. 3 Duke’s 10-under par 278 propelled it to the lead at 568, two shots ahead of No. 18 Tennessee at 570.  No. 11 Pepperdine is third another shot back at 571.  The Mocs are 13 shots behind eighth-place Florida at 581.

 

Emma de Groot, the 37th-ranked player nationally, shot a three-over par 75 this afternoon.  She is tied for 35th at 146 and had two birdies and 12 pars on the day.  de Groot is four birdies shy of breaking the season high for birdies by a Mocs individual.

 

Maria Juliana Loza posted a 77 and is tied for 67th at 151.  Katie Taylor shot 79 to put her at 155, tied for 99th.

 

There is a quartet of ladies leading the event individually at five-under 139.  Katie Burnett (South Carolina), Kim Donovan (Duke), Danielle Kang (Pepperdine) and Rosalyn Kim (Texas Tech) make up the foursome in first with Donovan’s 68 serving as the best round today among the four.

 

UTC tees off of the No. 1 tee at 12:41 p.m.  Taylor will lead off followed by Loza, de Groot and Wolf.  The Mocs are paired with No. 9 Wake Forest and East Carolina.

Cougar Golfers 22nd after Second Round of NCAA East Regional

Greenville, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's golf team fired a 310 in the second round to drop to 22nd after 36 holes of the NCAA East Regional being held May 7-9 at the Ironwood Country Club in Greenville, N.C.  The Cougars, who are just nine strokes out of the top 15 with a 607, are led by Vanessa Koechli (Greer, S.C.), who shot a 77 to tie for 59th.  #3 Duke shot 10-under par today to move into first with a 568.  #18 Tennessee followed with a 570 in the 54-hole event.

Koechli has a 149 after two rounds, with Leigh Whittaker (Baden-Baden, Germany) and Katharina Boehm (Poing, Germany) tied for 67th with a 151.  Tied for 107th is Ainhoa Nogales wit ha 156, after shooting a 79 in today's round.  Anna Martin rounds out the Cougar effort tied for 117th with a two-day total of 168.

Martin leads things off for the Cougars in the third and final round Saturday.  She tees off from hole 10 at 1:25 p.m.  Nogales follows with a tee time of 1:36 p.m., and behind her is Boehm at 1:47 p.m.  Whittaker tees off at 1:58 and at 2:09 is Koechli.

Furman Posts Second Round 296 At NCAA East Regional

Kenoyer Holds 12th Place Entering Final Round.

 

Greenville, N.C. -- Three Paladins shot three-over par 75 and Stefanie Kenoyer carded a one-under 71 to help Furman to a second round 296 on Friday at the NCAA East Regional at the par-72, 6,321-yard Ironwood Country Club.

 

The Paladins’ eight-over 296 marked the second best round of the 12 teams that teed off in the morning wave and helped Furman (305-296=601) climb into 18th place after 36 holes in the 54-hole tournament. Kenoyer (72-71=143), a junior from Lighthouse Point, Fla., continued her strong play carding a one-under 71 to move into 12th place entering the final round. She birdied five holes on the day, including three in a four-hole stretch on the back nine, to pull within four strokes of a five-way tie for the lead between Katie Burnett of South Caroline, Kim Donovan of Duke, Danielle Kang of Pepperdine and Rosalyn Kim of Texas Tech.

 

A pair of Paladin freshman, Laura Wearn (76-75=151) and Alexa Rancourt (80-75=155), joined junior Jackie Hilea (80-75=155) in posting a second round 75 to ignite Furman’s Friday morning run. Wearn’s up and down round featured six birdies, including three in her final four holes on the back nine.

 

Third-ranked Duke (290-278=568) fired a 10-under 278 on Friday to jump into the second round lead. The Blue Devils hold a two-stroke lead on Tennessee and three-stroke cushion over Pepperdine with 18 holes to play. South Carolina, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Tulane and Florida round out the top eight in the 24-team field.
