CofC Volleyball Releases 2010 Slate

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston and head coach Jason Kepner have announced the release of the 2010 volleyball schedule which includes two home tournaments and a number of high profile opponents.

The Cougars will open the season at the Northern Illinois Tournament (Aug. 27-28) where they will face the University of South Dakota, Chicago State, Oakland and NIU before traveling to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Winthrop Invitational (Sept. 3-4). CofC will open against Winthrop before facing Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference foes South Carolina and Clemson, respectively, on September 4.

A mid-week match with Presbyterian on September 7 will open the College of Charleston's home season and will kick off a seven-match home stand that will include both home tournaments. In the C of C Classic (Sept. 10-11), the Cougars will face competition from some of the top conferences in the nation.

They will open with a 7 p.m. match against Big East member and NCAA Tournament qualifier Cincinnati on Friday, September 10 before facing Auburn (Southeastern Conference) for the first time in program history at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 11. CofC will wrap up the tournament with the second meeting with Oregon State out of the Pac-10 when they play at 7:30 p.m. on the 11th.

The following weekend the College of Charleston will host North Florida, Radford and Central Michigan in the C of C Invitational (Sept. 17-18) before beginning defense of their sixth Southern Conference Tournament Championship with a 16-match league slate. The Cougars will jumpstart that portion of the schedule with a match at in-town rival The Citadel on September 21 before hitting the road to Western Carolina on the September 24.

CofC will step out of conference when they host North Carolina A&T at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 26 before resuming league play with a key two-match road trip. They will face Wofford on October 1 before traveling to Greenville, S.C. for a battle with defending regular season champion Furman the following day.

Last season, the Paladins went undefeated in the conference before the College of Charleston posted an impressive 3-0 victory in Southern Conference championship.

Following that mini road trip, the Cougars return home for a four-match home stand  that will feature matches with Georgia Southern, Davidson, Samford and Chattanooga. It will also include Alumni Weekend festivities October 8-9.

A three-match road trip will then wrap up most of the first half of the Southern Conference season as CofC travels to UNC Greensboro and Elon on October 22-23 and closes out non-conference play with a 7 p.m. match at Charleston Southern on October 26.

Appalachian State visits the Carolina First Arena on October 30, followed by a rematch with The Citadel three days later. Following a trip to Davidson and Georgia Southern on November 5-6, the Cougars return home to for a two-match set that could decide the regular season championship. On November 13, the College of Charleston will host Wofford before facing Furman at 2 p.m. on November 14.

The Cougars begin their 13th season in the Southern Conference with the 2010 season and have won eight regular season titles and six tournament championships and the six NCAA Tournament appearances that go with them.
