SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Regular season champion and tournament host The Citadel has earned the number one seed at the 2010 Bennett Hofford Southern Conference Baseball Championship presented by Carolina Ford Dealers.

 

The event begins Wednesday, May 26 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr., Park in Charleston, S.C., with the championship game scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 30.

 

The Bulldogs, which claimed their first SoCon regular season championship since 2002, will take on eighth-seeded Furman at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

 

College of Charleston grabbed second place in the league standings and earned a first round matchup against No. 7 seed Appalachian State in the tournament’s first game Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.

 

Defending tournament champion Georgia Southern is seeded third and will face No. 6 seed Western Carolina at 1 p.m. while No. 4 seed Elon will battle No. 5 seed Samford at 9 p.m. in Wednesday’s final game.

 

The top eight teams in the final Southern Conference standings qualified for the tournament, which features two four-team double-elimination brackets producing a single-elimination championship game at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 30. The tournament winner earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Championships.
