Elon to Face No. 6 Georgia at NCAA Regional

ELON, N.C. - After earning the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Championship, the 2010 SoCon Tournament Champion Elon Phoenix will travel to the Athens Regional, hosted by the University of Georgia. The Phoenix (38-19) will take on the sixth-seeded Georgia Bulldogs (43-11) on Friday, May 21 in the double-elimination regional. Game times will be announced on Monday. Radford and Florida State will also be part of the four-team field at the Athens Regional.  
 
"This team is so excited to represent Elon in the NCAA Tournament," said Phoenix head coach Patti Raduenz. "We are headed back to a familiar location at the University of Georgia. We have played there the last two years and are familiar with the facility. We are excited to get back on the field and looking forward to the fight."
 
The appearance marks the first time in program history that the Phoenix will play in the NCAA Softball Championship. Elon secured its berth in the tournament with a 6-3 win over UNC Greensboro last Friday afternoon in the league tournament championship game.
 
Elon and Georgia met earlier this season, with the then-fourth-ranked Bulldogs taking an 8-2 victory at the Bulldog Invitational. The Phoenix is 0-5 all-time against Georgia.
 
Elon and Florida State have met only twice on the softball field, with the Seminoles winning both meetings. The last meeting between the Phoenix and Seminoles came in 2003. Radford holds a 17-6 series advantage against Elon - the Highlanders won a two-game series in 2008 in the most recent meeting.
