SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The 2010 Southern Conference Softball Championship gets underway Thursday at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn.
No. 2-seeded Elon will take on No. 3 Georgia Southern in the first game Thursday, with the first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. Chattanooga, the No. 1 seed and regular season champion, will face No. 4 UNC Greensboro in the second game of the day, which starts at 1:30 p.m.
Friday's championship game is slated for 1:30 p.m.
The Lady Mocs finished the regular season 39-15 with a 19-5 mark in league play. The 19 conference wins are the most by any team in UTC history, surpassing the 18 recorded in 2002. Chattanooga, the defending tournament champion, is seeking its third-straight title and 11th overall.
UNC Greensboro posted a 25-28 overall record and went 12-11 in the conference. It marks the first time since 2003 that the Spartans finished the regular season with a winning record in league play.
Chattanooga won two of three against UNCG in the regular season series.
Elon registered an overall mark of 35-19 with a league mark of 15-9 to earn the No. 2 seed. The 35 wins are the most by the Phoenix since it began Division I competition.
Georgia Southern is looking to win its first tournament title since 2006. The Eagles completed the regular season with a 29-24 overall record and went 14-9 in the SoCon to gain the No. 3 seed. GSU made it to the championship game last season but fell to Chattanooga 7-2.
The Eagles swept their three-game series with Elon during the regular season.
