SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Cameron Bean and Western Carolina's Cordell Livingston have been honored as the Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets April 2-3. This marks Bean's second recognition in as many weeks. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.
Bean, a redshirt senior from Soddy Daisy, Tenn., took third place in the steeplechase at the Pepsi Florida Relays. His conference-leading time of 9:01.32 bested the previous school record by five seconds and also improved his personal record by 36 seconds. It marked the second consecutive week that Bean has set a school record.
A freshman from High Point, N.C., Livingston won the triple jump with a leap of 47' 2.5" and finished third in the long jump, registering a mark of 22' 1.75" at UNC Wilmington's Beaches vs. Mountains. He currently ranks second in the league in both events.
Livingston also took first place in both the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles posting times of 14.49 and 53.24, respectively. Both times lead the conference.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they travel to Oxford, Miss., for the Ole Miss Invitational. The Catamounts will host the WCU Invitational on April 16.
Other top track performers included:
Appalachian State's John Svoboda, a senior from Kernersville, N.C., who won the 400m at the Beaches vs. Mountains. His conference-leading time of 47.48 ranks fourth all-time at ASU and is 37th fastest in the nation. Svoboda also ran a leg of the 4x100m relay, which the Mountaineers won with a time of 40.76, putting them in first place in the league rankings.
The Citadel's Brunson Miller, a freshman from Murrells Inlet, S.C., who finished third overall and was the first collegian in the 400m dash at the Duke Invitational. His time of 48.00 is both a personal best and set a new freshman school record. He currently ranks second in the conference.
Western Carolina's Drew Tucker, a junior from King, N.C., who took first place in the 800m at the Beaches vs. Mountains with a time of 1:52.74. The mark currently ranks second in the league, just .01 behind first place. Tucker also split 47.3 on WCU's winning 4x400m relay squad that ran a league-leading time of 3:12.15.

The Citadel's Joseph O'Rourke, a graduate student from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., who finished eighth in the pole vault at the Duke Invitational. His mark of 15' 3" matched his personal best and moved him into second place all-time in the school record books.
Samford's Kyle Kirby, a sophomore from Longwood, Fla., who posted a toss of 171' 2" in the hammer throw at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic. The mark is a new school record and currently ranks fifth in the conference.
Wofford's Andy Vess, a junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., who took seventh place in the javelin at the Duke Invitational with a mark of 173' 7".
