MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Top-seeded College of Charleston defeated No. 4 seeded Davidson, 4-0, Saturday afternoon to secure a spot in the 2010 Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championship Match. The Cougars will face No. 3 seed Furman.
The Cougars won the doubles point with 8-3 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Holly Dowse and Emma Hayman downed Davidson's Virginia Berry and Teresa Wang at the No. 1 doubles position while Kinsey Casey and Irene Viana topped Ali Gores and Samantha Galainena at No. 3.
The Cougars then won the first three decisions in singles play, beginning with Dowse's 6-1, 6-0 victory over Berry at No. 1. Senior Laura Borza gave the Cougars a 3-0 advantage in the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Gores at No. 5 singles. Casey topped Alison Ruah, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for the Cougars.
College of Charleston improved to 15-8 on the season while Davidson closed the season at 19-9.

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Susan Bitetti's three-set victory at No. 5 singles over Rebecca Kirven gave the Furman Paladins a 4-3 victory over Samford and clinched a spot in the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championship match scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Bitetti took the first set, 6-3 before falling to Kivern, 6-4 in the second set. Bitetti battled back to take the third set, 6-2 which proved to be the deciding point as Furman (16-7) came away with the win.
After Samford claimed the doubles point, Michele Stanford gave the Paladins their first point of the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Stephanie Parkinson at No. 4 singles. The No. 2 seed Paladins then moved to a 2-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 victory by Arguello over Taylor Morgan at No. 1 singles.
Third-seeded Samford (17-6) then won two consecutive matches to take a 3-2 lead as Madelie van Rensburg posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jessica Preeg at No. 3 singles. Lindsey Mallory topped Jennifer Betts, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles for Samford.
Furman's Lauren Kline knotted the match at 3-3 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Andrie Meiring at No. 2 singles.
Parkison and van Rensburg clinched the doubles point for Samford with an 8-4 win over Stanford and Olivia Maurice at No. 3 doubles. Furman's Lauren Kline and Arguello opened doubles play with an 8-3 victory over Mallory and Morgan at No. 1 doubles. Samford's Andrie Meiring and Rebecca Kirven evened doubles competition with an 8-5 win over Preeg and Betts at No. 2. doubles.
The Paladins will face College of Charleston in the championship match Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
