MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Alberto Rojas' three-set victory over Mickael Boyer at No. 4 singles lifted the Elon Phoenix to a 4-3 victory over College of Charleston in the Southern Conference Men's Tournament Saturday morning. The Phoenix will face UNC Greensboro in Sunday's championship match.
After pulling out a 7-6 (7-4) victory win in the first set against Boyer, Rojas dropped the second set, 6-3. Rojas was able to come away with a 6-4 victory in the third set to earn the deciding point for the Phoenix.
The Phoenix captured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Cody Stauffer-MacDowell and Philip Nemec defeated College of Charleston's John Harden and Kyle Parker, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles before Chase Helpingstine and Alberto Rojas topped Lukas Koncilia and Tom Delme, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point for the Phoenix.
After Elon won the doubles point, College of Charleston (16-4) won the first two decisions in singles play. Kyle Parker put CofC on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Cody Stauffer-MacDowell at No. 5 singles. Mickael Trintignac won 6-1, 6-4 over Chase Helpingstine at No. 2 singles.
Elon's (9-13) Eric Turner made the match score, 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Tom Delme at No. 3 singles. The 2010 Player of the Year, Lukas Koncilia defeated Philip Nemec, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to give the Cougars a 3-2 advantage before Elon's Thomas Darling tied the match with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over John Harden.
UNC Greensboro 4, Furman 1

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - UNC Greensboro advanced to face Elon for the 2010 Men's Tennis Championships with a 4-1 win over Furman Saturday afternoon. After capturing the doubles point, the Spartans claimed three of the first four singles matchups to advance to Saturday's final.
Orcun Seyrek and Arsel Kumdereli earned an 8-6 win over Sawyer Duncan and Christ Motes at No. 1 doubles for UNCG. The Spartans' tandem of Yaroslav Litus and Jacob Wright then pulled out a thrilling 9-8 (7-5) win over Andrew Mellow and Carl Lundberg at No. 3 doubles.
Lundberg defeated Wright at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3 to give the Paladins (12-11) their only point of the match. From there, the Spartans (16-5) claimed the next three singles decision to claim the team victory.
Seyrek defeated Duncan (6-4, 6-3) at No. 1 singles just minutes before Timion Meijs topped Mellow, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5. Kumdereli came away with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Motes at No. 2 singles to clinch the match for UNCG.
The Spartans and Phoenix will square off Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. for the 2010 Southern Conference Men's Tennis Championship.
