SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston will serve as the host of the 2010 Southern Conference Men's and Women's' Tennis Championships this weekend in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.  The eight-team event features the top four men's and women's teams during the regular season and will be held at the Patriots Point Tennis Center.

The host Cougars (16-3, 10-0 SoCon) earned the No. 1 seed in the men's draw after posting a 10-0 league mark during the regular season.  CofC made a run to the conference semifinals last year as the No. 6 seed before falling to Elon (8-13, 6-4), their opponent on Saturday.  The Cougars won a 4-3 decision over Elon during the regular season by virtue of winning the top four singles matches.

The second semifinal pits the Furman Paladins (12-9, 8-1) against the UNC Greensboro Spartans (15-5, 8-2).  The Paladins, last year's tournament champion, defeated the Spartans, 5-2 on April 17 in Greenville, S.C.  Furman enters the conference tournament having won seven of its last eight matches, while the Spartans earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament after an 8-2 campaign in conference play.  Furman ousted the Spartans in last year's semifinals, 4-0.

The men's championship match will take place Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.

Last year's women's tournament champion, the College of Charleston Cougars (18-9) went 10-0 in league play during 2010 to earn the No. 1 seed.  CofC will take on Davidson (15-7, 7-3) Saturday at 1:00 p.m.  The Cougars defeated the Wildcats, 5-2 in Davidson, N.C. on March 20.

The winner of the first women's semifinal will take on the winner of the match between No. 2 Samford (17-5, 9-1) and No. 3 Furman (15-7, 8-2).  The Paladins advanced to last year's championship final before falling to CofC,
4-1.  The Bulldogs won their final nine conference matches, including a 6-1 win over Furman March 27.

The women's semifinal winners will advance to the championship match, scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
