LYNCHBURG, Va.- Junior heavyweight Josh Wine has been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Wrestling All-State First Team, as announced on Friday by the association.
Wine (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) enjoyed another standout campaign for the Keydet wrestling team, going 22-2 and earning All-Southern Conference recognition for the third straight season. He was named the SoCon’s Wrestler of the Month in January, going undefeated while claiming his first-ever regular season title in January at the Wilkes Open. In March, Wine placed third at the SoCon Championships, following a season that saw him go 12-0 in dual meets and 4-0 in SoCon matches, running his career mark to 10-0 in league duals.
The honor marks the second time Wine has been honored as an All-State selection, as he was placed on the Second Team as a freshman in 2008.
He also earned All-Big South Conference honors on the gridiron last fall, being named to the Second Team on the defensive line.
Virginia’s Chris Henrich and Steve Garland earned Wrestler of the Year and Coach of the Year honors, respectively, while Virginia Tech’s Brian Stephens was a unanimous selection for the Commonwealth’s Rookie of the Year. The rest of the honorees are listed below.
