SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State's John Svoboda and The Citadel's Quintin Turner have been tabbed the Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets April 16-17. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

Svoboda, a senior from Kernersville, N.C., won both the 100m and 200m at the Appalachian Invitational Friday in Boone, N.C. Aided by a slight tailwind, he posted a time of 10.57 in the 100m, which leads the conference and is good for seventh in school history. He ranks second in the conference for the 200m with a time of 21.43. Both marks are personal bests. Svoboda is also a member of the league-leading 4x100m relay team.

A junior from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Turner posted two top-five finishes at the UNF Osprey Challenge Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla. Turner took first place in the discus with a mark of 154' 7". His toss of 143' 5" in the hammer throw was good for fourth.

The Mountaineers and the Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they compete at the 2010 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Boone, N.C.  

Other top field performers included:

Appalachian State's Matt Boruff, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., who won the pole vault at the Appalachian Invitational. His mark of 16' 0.75" ranks third in the league. Boruff also ran a personal-best 55.36 in the 400m hurdles.
