Martin, Watkins Tabbed Women's Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Freshman teammates Shenita Martin and teammate Gayshawna Watkins from Appalachian State have been honored as the Southern Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for all meets April 16-17. The selections are made by the league's track & field coaches.

A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Martin won both the 100m dash and the 400m hurdles at the Appalachian Invitational Friday. Her time of 1:03.22 in the hurdles is a season best and currently ranks third in the league.

Watkins, who is from Forest City, N.C., took first place in the shot put at the Appalachian Invitational. Her season-best toss of 44' 2.5" ranks second in the conference. She also took second place in both the discus and hammer throw.

The Mountaineers return to action Saturday at the 2010 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Boone, N.C.
