HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Day one leader Yue Xu fired an even 72 on Monday to preserve her place atop the individual standings heading into round three of the 2010 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. College of Charleston also upheld its position at No. 1 behind a one-under performance from freshman Ainhoa Nogales.

After shooting a one-under 71 Monday, Nogales enters round three in second place, four strokes behind Xu.

The Cougars (+25) hold a one-stroke lead over second-place Chattanooga, which shot a round-leading 297. The Lady Mocs had three individuals finish in the top 10.

Leading the way for UTC was junior Emma de Groot, who registered an even 72. de Groot is tied for third place individually with Elon freshman Diana Davis. Also in the top 10 for the Lady Mocs were sophomore Maria Juliana Loza (76, +4), who is tied for seventh and junior Christine Wolf (71, -1), who is tied for ninth. Wolf jumped into the top ten after finishing round one tied for 24th.

UNC Greensboro (+34) came in third after shooting 304 on the day. Freshman Courtney Taylor shot a 75 (+3) in round two to lead the Spartans.

Appalachian State (+44) moved up one spot to No. 4.

Defending conference champion Furman (+45) fell one spot to No. 5. Junior Jackie Hilea entered the day tied for 15th, but shot an even 72 to move into a tie for seventh. Hilea tallied six birdies on the day and leads the field with nine. Fellow Paladin Alexa Rancourt, a freshman, posted a 74 in round two and sits in a tie for ninth.

Coming in at No. 6 was Elon (601, +25), followed by Samford (632, +56) at No. 7 and Western Carolina (643, +67) at No. 8. Rounding out the standings were No. 9 Wofford (646, +70) and No. 10 The Citadel (710, +134).

The fourth and ninth holes, both par four, caused the most problems for the field as they played to a 0.66 strokes above par average. Despite the difficulty some faced at No. 4, it did yield a round-leading 10 birdies, while the par-four first had the lowest above par average with a 0.18. The 11th hole, a par five, yielded a round-leading eight birdies, while the par-three 17th had the lowest above par average with a 0.22

The final round of the championship begins Tuesday at 8 a.m. ET with results updated every three holes at www.golfstatresults.com.
