Round Two Tee Times

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Appalachian State freshman Yue Xu shot a 69 (-3) in round one to take the lead Sunday at the 2010 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship held at the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. College of Charleston has three individuals in the top five and has a team score of 300 (+12) to lead by six strokes.  

Leading the way for the Cougars was sophomore Leigh Whittaker who finished the day with a 73 (+1).

CofC had two golfers tie for third as freshmen Kathy Boehm and Ainhoa Nogales both registered a score of 74. 

UNC Greensboro and Chattanooga enter round two tied for second with a 306 (+18). Freshman Courtney Taylor was the top finisher for the Spartans and is currently tied for third with four other golfers after shooting a 74 (+2). Also placing in the top 10 for UNCG was senior Annelie Weimenhog whose first round 76 tied her for seventh with three others.

The Lady Mocs were led by sophomore Maria Juliana Loza (74, +2) who is in the four-way tie for third. Her teammates, sophomore Moa Duf and junior Emma de Groot, both shot a 76 and are part of the four-way tie for seventh.

Elon freshman Diana Davis also tied for seventh with a 76 and rounded out the top 10.

Appalachian State, who tee'd off first on day one with The Citadel, jumped from ninth place to fifth after Xu's opening round. The Mountaineers shot a team score of 317 (+29). Freshman Rumbidzai Masamvu wrapped up the day with a 77 to put her in a four-way tie for 11^th place.

Defending conference champion Stefanie Kenoyer of Furman also shot a 77 in the opening round and sits in the tie for 11^th.

The Paladins, who claimed the team title in 2009, came in at fourth (315, +27), followed by Appalachian State in fifth, Samford (318, +30) at sixth and Elon (322, +34) at seventh. Rounding out the standings were Wofford (330 +42), Western Carolina (331 +43) and The Citadel (357, +69).

The par-four third caused the most problems for the players as it played to a 1.18 strokes above par average. The 11^th hole, a par five, yielded a round-leading eight birdies, while the par-three 17^th had the lowest above par average with a 0.22

The second round of the championship begins Monday at 8 a.m. ET with results updated every three holes at www.golfstatresults.com.
