SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga's Anneli Uys and Appalachian State's Danielle Thorpe have been tabbed the Southern Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for all meets April 9-10. This marks Thorpe's second consecutive honor and third of the season. The selections are made by the league's track & field coaches.
A senior from Somerville, Australia, Uys finished fourth in the 1500m at the University of Tennessee's Sea Ray Relays. Her personal best time of 4:26.73 ranks first in the conference rankings. She is the defending league champion in both the 800m and 1500m. Uys also ran a split of 4:32 on the 4x1500 relay team that took second place.
Thorpe, a senior from Durham, N.C., won both the long and triple jump at The Carolina's Cup hosted by Winthrop University. Her season-best leap of 19' 1.5" in the long jump ranks first in the league. She registered a personal best mark of 42' 4" in the triple jump which moved her to 14th in the nation and sixth in the region. Thorpe leads the league rankings in the triple jump by more than two feet.
The Mocs return to action Saturday at the Indiana Invitational, while the Mountaineers host the Appalachian Invitational on Friday.
Other top track performers included:
Appalachian State's Stephanie Chapman, a sophomore from Asheville, N.C., who won the steeplechase at The Carolina's Cup. Her time of 11:31.72 ranks third all-time in school history and is also good for fifth in the conference.
Samford's Hillary Neal, a junior from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., who was the top finisher in the 800m at the Ole Miss Invitational with a school record time of 2:09.30. She also ranks first in the league in the event.
Samford's Morgan Tyler, a junior from Houston, Texas, who ran a conference-leading time of 1:02.82 in the 400m hurdles at the Ole Miss Invitational.

Elon's Justine Robertson, a junior from Doylestown, Pa., who broke school records in the discus and the javelin at the University of Virginia's Lou Onesty Invitational with marks of 145' 8" and 125' 9", respectively. She currently leads the league in the discus.
