SPARTANBURG, S.C.  - Appalachian State's Trent Constance has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches April 5-11 the league office announced Tuesday (April 13).  Constance went 4-0 in singles play last week and was 3-1 in doubles competition for the Mountaineers last week.  The Player of the Week is awarded by the conference office.

Constance won four matches at No. 3 singles last week, beginning with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over UNC Greensboro's Jacob Wright.  Constance then topped The Citadel's David Orces (6-4, 6-2) and Charlotte's Michale Anders (6-1, 7-6).  He closed the week with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Samford's Oliver Reynolds.

Paired with Peter Jacobs at No. 1 doubles, Constance helped the Mountaineers' duo post a 3-1 mark last week.  After falling to UNCG's Arsel Kumdereli and Orcun Seyrek, 8-6, Jacobs and Constance won three straight matches, beginning with an 8-4 decision over The Citadel's Yufo Sutantio and Alberto Diaz.  They finished the week with wins over Charlotte's Moritz Bernhoersters and Jessee Hutchinson (8-6) and Samford's Carson Kadi and Michael Browder (8-1).  The team of Constance and Jacobs is now 14-4 in doubles play this spring.

The Mountaineers (11-8, 3-5) visit Elon Tuesday afternoon at (6-13, 5-4) at 3:00 p.m.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston's Lukas Koncilia, Elon's Philip Nemec, Furman's Sawyer Duncan and Chattanooga's Roberto Vieira.
