Kirkpatrick, Moye, Patterson Earn SoCon Baseball Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina third baseman Tyler Kirkpatrick has been named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week while Andy Moye of Georgia Southern and Chris Patterson of Appalachian State have been selected as the league’s Co-Pitchers of the Week for all games from April 5-11.

Kirkpatrick led the Catamounts to a 3-1 week by going 8-for-14 (.571) with five of his eight hits for extra bases including three home runs and two doubles. The senior amassed a 1.357 slugging percentage, and by drawing one walk and twice being hit by a pitch, he recorded a .647 on-base percentage. Kirkpatrick posted seven RBIs to lead the Catamounts on the week and scored five runs as WCU defeated Tennessee and took two-of-three from Wofford.

Moye pitched 7.0 scoreless innings in Georgia Southern’s 4-0 shutout of Elon on Sunday afternoon. The junior right-hander improved to 4-3 on the season as he scattered three hits, all singles, and only allowed one base runner to reach third base. Moye struck out eight Elon hitters as the Eagles became the first team to blank the Phoenix in a SoCon game since joining the league in 2004.

Patterson was stellar out of the bullpen last week, earning a win and three saves in four appearances for the Mountaineers. A senior right-hander, Patterson worked 5.2 innings, scattering three singles while recording strikeouts in 13 of a possible 18 outs. After earning a win against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, Patterson saved all three of ASU’s SoCon wins over Davidson. In game two, he recorded seven strikeouts in two innings after a passed ball on the third strikeout of the eighth inning made a four-strikeout inning possible.

Other hitters receiving consideration were Mac Doyle (Wofford), Jason Wallace (Appalachian State), Will Muzika (Furman), Mason Meredeth (Samford), Greg Blake (College of Charleston), Brad Felder (The Citadel), Ryan Adams (Elon), Eric Phillips (Georgia Southern) and Harry Slade (UNC Greensboro).

Other top performers among pitchers were Ian Parry (Furman), Jimmy Reyes (Elon), Matt Reifsnider (The Citadel), Kevin Decker (College of Charleston), Josh Martin (Samford), Matt Benedict (Western Carolina) and John Cornely (Wofford).
