Western Carolina Women’s Golf Posts Fourth-Place Finish at Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate
Catamounts to host Low Country Intercollegiate this weekend in Hilton Head, S.C.
Augusta, Ga. ? Western Carolina slipped one spot in the final standings, finishing fourth after Tuesday’s final round of the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate hosted by Augusta State at the Forest Hills Golf Club. Junior Josefine Sundh paced the Catamounts in the tournament, advancing three positions in the individual finishing order to place in a three-way tie for sixth.
Sundh carded a three-over 75 to move from a tie for ninth-place after Monday’s first and second rounds.
Coastal Carolina, which led after two rounds played on Monday, claimed the overall team championship by shooting 891 over the 54-hole event to win by 15 strokes over host Augusta State (906). UNC Wilmington placed third at 926 with the Catamounts fourth just five strokes in arrears at 931. Middle Tennessee State rounded out the top five with a three-round score of 933.
Behind Sundh, sophomore Blaire Minter matched her opening round, five-over 77 on Tuesday to finish tied for 13th with a score of 230, while freshman Malin Jansson, who led WCU after the opening two rounds, came home with an 81 to finish one stroke behind Minter alone in 15th at 231.
Western Carolina’s lineup was rounded out by senior Desiree Karlsson in a tie for 57th (248) and sophomore Rachel Nelson tied for 61st (249).
Jansson ranked tied for second in the tournament after scoring par on 34 of the 54 holes. Sundh, Minter and Nelson each shot two-over on the par 3 holes during the three-round, two-day event with Minter also tying for second in par 5 scoring at four-under.
Tiffany Schisler, playing as an individual, advanced nine positions in the final standings to finish tied for 57th with a three-round score of 248.
Western Carolina’s next event is the Low Country Intercollegiate, which it will host on the South Course at the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
UNCG’s Taylor finishes sixth, Spartans sixth in team standings at Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate
AUGUSTA, Ga. ? UNC Greensboro’s Courtney Taylor recorded her second consecutive Top 10 finish as the Spartans finished in sixth place Monday at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament.
Taylor, a freshman from Gastonia, N.C., shot a final round 77 to finish at 226 and in a tie for sixth place. Coastal Carolina’s Airuka Felgueroso claimed individual honors, rallying with a final round 68 after beginning the round in ninth place. She finished four shots ahead of Coastal Carolina’s Brittany Henderson and Augusta State’s Tamara Luccioli, who led entering the day.
Coastal Carolina won the team title with a score of 891, running away from the field on the final day thanks to Henderson and Felgueroso, In fact, the Chants had all five players finish in the Top 10 to pull away from tournament host Augusta State, which finished second with a 906. UNCG finished sixth at 934 after a final round 319.
UNCG returns to action March 22 at the Pinehurst Challenge, which will be played on Pinehurst No. 6.

Elon Climbs Leaderboard at JMU Eagle Landing Invite
ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Tara McFadden led Elon's charge up the leaderboard on day two of the JMU Eagle Landing Invite on Monday as she carded a second-round score of 71, one-under par, to move the Phoenix women's golf teams up two spots to eighth place. The Phoenix has a tournament score of 613 (315-298). The final round of the three-day event will be held at the Eagle Landing Golf Club on Tuesday.
McFadden, who started her second round on the back nine, was even par through 11 holes before posting a birdie at number three. Coupled with a round of 81 yesterday, McFadden's 152 has her tied for 22nd after two rounds. She is also the top Elon player on the board.
One stroke back at 153 (76-77) is Diana Davis who is tied for 27th after two rounds. Kelsey Johnson is also among those players tied for 27th. Her 153 came after rounds of 78 and 75.
Lauren Lebak also notched a second-round score of 75 to give her a two-day total of 155 (80-75). Lebak sits tied for 38th. Dani Mullin rounds out the Phoenix field. Mullin's 163 (86-77) is tied for 76th in the field of 96.
Individually, Illinois' Hailey Koschmann held her spot atop the leaderboard with a two-under 70 on day two. She has a two-round total of 139 (69-70) and is five strokes better than Chattanooga's Emma de Groot (74-70--144).
Central Arkansas continues to lead the field, adding a 297 to yesterday's score of 299. The Bears total of 596 is three strokes better than South Florida (303-296--599) who sits second. Illinois (308-294--602), Florida Gulf Coast (305-302--607) and Stetson (305-304--609) round out the top-five. Kennesaw State (304-307) and 33rd-ranked Chattanooga (316-295) are tied for sixth with a 611.
The Phoenix enters Tuesday's final round with a one-stroke advantage on East Carolina (311-303--614). Elon also leads Kansas State (313-306--619), Jacksonville (312-308--620), host James Madison (316-307--623), Georgetown (319-305--624), Longwood (317-308--625), Iowa (330-310--640), Yale (326-314--640) and High Point (329-329--658).
Mocs Move Up to a Tie for Sixth at JMU/Eagle Landing
Emma de Groot (2nd) and Maju Loza (9th) are in the top 10
JACKSONVILLE, Fla..---Maria Juliana Loza’s three-under par 69 keyed a move up the leaderboard for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s women’s golf team at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational. Chattanooga shot seven-over par 295 which was the second-best round of the day.
Loza posted four birdies against just one bogey for her round. It is the best round of 2009-10 for a Mocs women’s golfer as well as her career low. The four birdies and one bogey also rank as season bests. She is in ninth after starting the day tied for 49th at 149 (+5).
Emma de Groot continued her fine play shooting a two-under par 70. Like Loza, she had just one bogey on her card and is in second at level-par 144, five shots behind Illinois’ Hailey Koschmann at 139 (-5) and one shot ahead of third-place Shena Yang of USF.
Moa Duf’s 74 today is her season best. She is tied for 35th at 154 (+10). Christine Wolf’s second straight 82 puts her tied for 78th at 164, while Katie Taylor shot 85 and is at 172, tied for 92nd.
Central Arkansas leads the event at 596, three shots ahead of USF in second (599). Illinois’ 602 has it in third just six shots back.
The Mocs tee off at 8 a.m., off of hole No. 1 tomorrow morning. They will be led by Katie Taylor and are playing with Elon and East Carolina.

Women's Golf Opens Spring Season at Administaff Lady Jaguar Invitational
AUGUSTA, Ga. ? The Wofford women’s golf team opened its 2010 season at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Invitational, hosted by Augusta State University at Forest Hills Golf Club. The Terriers finished eighth in a 14-team field.
Senior Sarah Herbert and freshman Tarah Taylor led the Terriers, finishing tied for 20th with scores of 233 after three rounds of play. Herbert paced the team in the first round with a score of 76 while Taylor led the Terriers in round two, carding a 74.
Junior Alex Rankin tied for 31st individually, recording a three-round score of 237 (78-81-78) and junior Meredith Few tied for 38th, carding a 238 total (80-78-80).
The team finished with a score of 937 (311-315-311) to place eighth out of 14 teams. The tournament field included Southern Conference schools Western Carolina and UNC Greensboro. Coastal Carolina claimed the tournament championship with a team score of 891 (301-299-291). The Chanticleer’s Aruka Felgueroso shot a three-over par 219 to claim the individual title.
Wofford will next compete at the Lowcountry Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., which the Terriers will co-host with Western Carolina. The tournament will be held at the Moss Creek Golf Course March 13 and 14.
