Postgame Quotes: Game 9, Samford vs. Appalachian State

Appalachian State Mountaineers

Head Coach Darcie Vincent
Opening statement ... "Obviously, today it was a performance that you have to just give all the credit to Samford. They shot the ball well; they hit the open shots when they needed it. I think what we saw tonight was us being a young team and making mistakes at times you shouldn't make a mistake. This is why you play in these games. This is great experience. Samford just came out and hit the shots they needed to. They did a good job of defending us off."

On the today's game ... "You aren't going to stop Samford too many times down the court. They're a small team. We are a much larger team. When we stood and held the ball they just sagged off. We have one 3-point threat and sometimes Anna (Freeman) and when Anna went to the bench with her second foul we just had one threat with Sam (Ramirez). With that it just clogged up the middle."

Junior Guard Chakeitha Weldon
On today's game ... "It was very important for my teammates and I to go out and play hard. Every game matters, and we had to go out and compete on every possession, no matter what. Samford is good at getting open shots, and we were a step too late."

Freshman Forward Anna Freeman

On next season ... "I think we came a long way from where people expected of Appalachian. But, we have a long way to go."
