BOONE, N.C.- Appalachian State University women's tennis won its fourth straight match Friday afternoon, as the Mountaineers were able to sneak past Longwood, and earn a thrilling 4-3 victory. With the win, ASU improves to a stout 6-3 on the season while Longwood drops to 3-3 overall.
The Apps' started the match off with impressive play as they were able to earn wins in two of three doubles matches.
At the number one doubles spot, the duo of Ellie Linsell andOlivia Stannard were victorious over their competitors, earning an 8-4 win, while Laura Janke and Gisela Fernandez secured the Black and Gold's doubles point, winning 8-6 at the number two position.
Despite a solid effort, Jennifer Ansari and Caroline Mauch came up just short at the number three doubles spot, falling 8-6 to Hannah Hill and Mason Davis.
Linsell kept with her strong play at number one singles, winning in two sets, 6-2, 6-4 over Zsofia Jakaba and Ansari grabbed a win at the number two singles spot as well.
Fernandez was unable to keep pace at the number three position, falling 6-1, 6-1 to Marta Pinyol, while Mauch and Stannard suffered defeats as well at the four and five spots.
Janke capped off the day on a strong note, as she downed Hill at the number six singles spot, winning 6-2, 6-3.
Appalachian now travels to the Sunshine state and will square off against Radford, Tuesday March 9 in Orlando, Fla.
