BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Wofford women's tennis team was defeated by Gardner-Webb on Thursday afternoon by a score of 5-2. The loss drops the Terriers to 1-8 on the season.
Gardner-Webb won all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead. The Terriers were unable to mount a comeback as Gardner-Webb won four of the six singles matches to win the match 5-2.
Wofford was able to win at the number two and five singles Haley Baird won her number two singles match against Ioana Oprea. Baird lost the first set 2-6 but came back to win the second set 6-1. The final set was decided over a ten point tie break which Baird won 10-6. Stephanie Cox won her number five singles match over Ronia Hutterli by a score of 6-4, 6-0.
The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, March 6 when they will travel to Birmingham, Alabama to take on the Air Force Academy at noon.
