SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Greensboro's Laura Olenderski has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for March 24.
The senior outfielder from Lewes, Del., is majoring in marketing and has a 3.85 GPA.
Olenderski hit .833 in three games last week as UNC Greensboro went 2-1. She registered an on-base percentage of .857.
In the Spartans' 11-7 win at College of Charleston, Olenderski was 3-for-3 with a walk, while tallying two runs and an RBI. She reached base five times and scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the 11th inning.
Olenderski went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in the second game of the doubleheader. Her first two at-bats each resulted in singles, giving her nine consecutive plate appearances in which she reached base last week. The Spartans won 5-1 and completed their first sweep of the Cougars since 2002.
Also nominated this week was Elon women's golf player Tara McFadden and Western Carolina men's track & field athlete Drew Tucker.
