CofC's Koncilia Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston's Lukas Koncilia has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches March 15-21 the league office announced Tuesday (March 23). Koncilia went 2-1 in singles competition last week and was 3-0 in doubles competition with teammate Tom Delme. The Cougars went 2-1 last week with wins over Jacksonville State (5-2) and Charlotte (7-0). The Player of the Week is awarded by the conference office.

Competing at the No. 1 singles position, Koncilia downed Jacksonville State's Brian Kenyon, 6-3, 6-2. The Tyrol, Austria native suffered his only loss on the week to No. 14 Mississippi's Tucker Vorster, 6-2, 6-2 in a 6-1 loss for the Cougars. Koncilia rebounded to earn a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Charlotte's Moritz Bernhoerster.

Koncilia and Delme were a perfect 3-0 with wins over Jacksonville State's Axel Sunberg and Chris Duke (8-1) and Charlotte's Bernhoerster and Jesse Hutchinson (10-8). The Cougars' tandem also earned a win over Mississippi's Vorster and Jonas Lutjen (8-5), ranked No. 51 in the country.

The Cougars return to action Friday when College of Charleston visits Appalachian State.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel's Alberto Diaz, and Furman's Andrew Mellow.
