SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Furman's Monica Arguello has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches March 15-21 the league office announced Tuesday (March 23). Arguello finished the week 2-0 at No. 1 singles as the Paladins earned wins over East Carolina (4-3) and Georgia Southern (5-2). The Player of the Week is awarded by the conference office.
The Lakeland, Fla., native ran her record to 7-4 at the top singles position with straight set wins over ECU's Jessica Cook and Georgia Southern's Ali Beavers. Arguello topped Cook, 6-1, 6-1 in a 4-3 Furman victory last Thursday. On Saturday, the junior topped Beavers, 6-1, 6-2 in a 5-2 victory for the Paladins.
Arguello has now won her last five singles matches and has the third-highest winning percentage in the conference at No. 1 singles (.636).
The Paladins return to the courts Wednesday (March 24) when they visit Wofford.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston's Holly Dowse, Elon's Paige Kensrue, and Chattanooga's Jenna Nurik.
