Elon, Chattanooga in Contention During Busy Day in Golf

Phoenix, McFadden in Tie for Second After Two Rounds of UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic

WALLACE, N.C. -- After being one stroke back with a first round 301, the Elon Phoenix women's golf team shot a second round 315 to sit in a three-way tie for second place out of nine teams in the field at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic on Monday.  Penn (300-305) leads the field by 11 strokes with a 605 following two rounds of play.
 
Tara McFadden led the Elon charge, posting a 74 over her first 18 holes before carding a 78 in her second round of play.  Her total of 152 has McFadden in a tie for ninth out of 51 golfers.
 
Both Diana Davis and Lauren Lebak are tied for 14th after notching identical rounds of 75 and 80 for a two-round score of 155.  Kelsey Johnson is two strokes back of the pair, firing a 77-80--157 to sit in a tie for 19th.  Dani Mullin (83-77--160) was the final of Elon's five players.  Mullin sits in a tie for 26th after a two-round score of 160 (83-77).
 
Shannon Prunty is competing as an individual and is tied for 34th after a score of 163 (83-80).
 
UNC Wilmington's Carmen Perez-Narbon shot a two-under 142 (69-73) to lead the field by four strokes over Penn's Catherine Elliott.
 
Elon, Jacksonville State and UNC Wilmington are all tied for second at 616.  The trio leads UMKC (625) by nine strokes.  Longwood (632), Appalachian State (635), Winthrop (644) and DePauw (665) round out the field.
 
The third and final round will be played on Tuesday.
 

 

 

 

Chattanooga Women’s Golf in Third after 36 Holes

Three Mocs in Top 15 after playing 36 holes on rainy Monday

 

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s golf team is in third-place after 36 holes of the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate Monday.  The Mocs shot 622 and is trailing host Georgia State (601) and Arkansas-Little Rock (613).

 

Chattanooga opened the first round in second-place with a 305, five shots behind Georgia State at the time.  Loza’s 75 led the way for the Mocs tying for fourth through 18 holes.

 

Wolf and de Groot and Wolf were tied for ninth, one shot back at 76.  Moa Duf had a 78 to round out the counters.

 

The Mocs had a tough second 18, however, shooting 317 to fall back to third.  Wolf and de Groot shot matching 78s, while Loza ended up one more back at 79.  The trio is tied for 13th at 154.

 

Duf is tied for 31st at 160 following an afternoon 82.  Katie Taylor’s 86 and 82 place her tied for 62nd with a 168.

 

Georgia State’s Cathrine Madsen is the individual leader at two-over par 146, tied with Daytona State’s Jennifer Gartin.  Brittany Kelly (Ball State), Mallory Fraiche (UALR) and Iliska Verwey (GSU) are tied for third at 150 (+6).

 

The Mocs play the final 18 tomorrow.  First tee times are at 9 a.m.

UNCG eighth after two rounds at Pinehurst Challenge women’s golf tourney

 

PINEHURST, N.C. ? UNC Greensboro carded a 299 in the afternoon round to sit in eighth place after 36 holes at the Pinehurst Challenge women’s golf tournament hosted by College of Charleston on Pinehurst No. 8.

 

The Spartans were 10th after the morning round, shooting 306 in the first 18 holes. They bounced back to shoot a 299 in the second round to slide up to eighth place in the 18-team field entering Tuesday’s final round.

 

Florida State is in control atop the team standings, sitting at 577 and holding an 18-shot lead over Campbell and Maryland. North Carolina State and James Madison are tied for fourth at 598, followed by Minnesota and East Tennessee State tied for sixth at 599, then UNCG at 605.

 

Sofia Aidemark is UNCG’s top individual golfer, sitting in 20th place after rounds of 76 and 74. Annelie Weimenhog had the team’s best round of the day, bouncing back from a tough morning round to card a 73 in the afternoon round.

 

Maryland’s Christine Shimel leads the individual standings, sitting at five-under par 139. Charleston Southern’s Olivia Higgins and Florida State’s Lacey Agnew are tied for second at 142.

 

Tuesday’s final round will be a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m.

Western Carolina Women’s Golf 10th after Two Rounds at Pinehurst Challenge

Josefine Sundh and Malin Jansson lead WCU in a five-way tie for 10th place

 

Pinehurst, N.C. ? Ninth after the opening round, the Western Carolina women’s golf team finished the first day 10th at the Pinehurst Challenge, hosted by the College of Charleston at the par-72, 5,992-yard Pinehurst No. 6 course. The Catamounts carded 612 (605-607) on the opening day and are the second-best Southern Conference school in the 18-team field.

 

The final round will begin at 9:00 am on Tuesday with a shotgun start. The Catamounts will be teamed with golfers from the College of Charleston and Illinois, opening their final 18 holes on the back nine.

 

Florida State posted a one-over, 577, through the first two rounds to hold the team lead by 18 strokes over a two-way tie for second between Campbell and Maryland at 595. North Carolina State and James Madison are both three-strokes in arrears after shooting 598 to round out the top five teams.

 

WCU trails SoCon-foe UNC Greensboro by seven strokes, 605-to-612, and leads the host College of Charleston by two strokes with the Cougars standing 11th. Wofford is a fourth conference school in the event, tied for 16th at 632.

 

Maryland’s Christine Shimel carded consecutive rounds of 71 and 68 for a five-under, 139, after the first day to hold a three-stroke lead over the two-way tie for the runner-up position between Charleston Southern’s Olivia Higgins and Lacey Agnew of Florida State, each in the clubhouse with scores of two-under, 142.

 

For Western Carolina, countrymen junior Josefine Sundh and freshman Malin Jansson are both amidst a five-way tie for 10th place in the individual medalist hunt after shooting four-over, 148. Sundh posted rounds of 75 and 73 while Jansson shot identical rounds of two-over 74 to enter Tuesday’s final round tied in the top 10.

 

Senior Desiree Karlsson is in a five-way tie for 48th after shooting 155, with sophomores Blaire Minter tied for 70th (161) and Rachel Nelson tied for 88th (167) rounding out the Catamount side.

 

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday beginning at 9:00 am.

 

 

 

 

CofC Women's Golf 11th at Pinehurst Spring Challenge

 

Pinehurst, N.C. - The College of Charleston women's golf team fired a 309 in the first and a 305 in the second to sit 11th after 36 holes of the Pinehurst Spring Challenge being held Mar. 22-23 at Pinehurst #6 in Pinehurst, N.C.  Florida State is first with a 577 after shooting a tournament-low 287 in the first round.  Campbell and Maryland are tied for second, 18 strokes out.  The Cougars are just two strokes from the top 10 with their 614.

 

Maryland's Christine Shimel leads for individual medalist honors with a 139 after firing a 68 in the second round.  Charleston Southern's Olivia Higgins and Florida State's Lacey Agnew are tied for second with a 142 each.

 

Leigh Whittaker (Baden-Baden, Germany) leads the Cougars and is tied for 25th with a 151, while Vanessa Koechli (Greer, S.C.) is tied for 38th with a 153.  Ainhoa Noglaes (Pozuelo del Arcon, Spain) shot a 154 and is tied for 45, while Emily Rapp's (Simpsonville, S.C.) 156 put her sixth.  Rounding out the Cougars was Katharina Boehm (Poing, Germany) with her 163 which was good enough for a tie at 77th.

 

Anna Martin (Easley, S.C.) competed for CofC as an individual and tied for 80th with a 164.

 

The third round is a shotgun format and begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday.  The Cougars tee off from holes 10, 11 and 12.
