Women's Golf Tied for Fifth at UCF Challenge
Sorrento, Fla. - Leigh Whittaker (Baden-Baden, Germany) shot a 146 with two 73s to tie for 11th while Vanessa Koechli (Greer, S.C.) added a 148 to tie for 17th to lead the College of Charleston men's golf team to a tie for fifth after the second round of the UCF Challenge being held Mar. 1-2 at the Red Tail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla. Georgia State leads with a 591. Charleston is tied with Oklahoma for fifth with a 599 each.
Texas A&M's Julia Boland leads for individual medalist honors with a two-round total of 140 after shooting a 65 in the first round. Teammate Sarah Zwartynski is second with a 141.
Following Whittaker and Koechli for the Cougars was Kathy Boehm (Poing, Germany) who tied for 28th with a 151. Emily Rapp (Simpsonville, S.C.) tied for 43rd with a 154 and tied for 73rd with a 162 was Ainhoa Nogales (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain).
Due to rain in the forecast for Tuesday, the third and final round will be a shotgun format beginning at 8 a.m.

Hilea Leads Paladins On Opening Day Of UCF Challenge
Sorrento, Fla. -- Jackie Hilea recorded rounds of 74 and 72 on Monday to hold 11th place and help the Furman women’s golf team to a share of seventh place after 36 holes at the UCF Challenge at the par-72 Redtail Golf Club.
Hilea (74-72=146), a junior from Kaneohe, Hawaii, birdied four holes during her second round on Monday afternoon to climb into a tie for 11th following a two-over-par opening round in the morning. Fellow junior Stefanie Kenoyer (72-75=147) fired an even-par first round and a second round 75 to grab a share of 14th place.
Sophomore Liz Wendt (83-74=157) and freshman Alexa Rancourt (77-75=152) continued the Paladins’ strong play in the afternoon with rounds of 74 and 75, respectively.
Furman trails tournament leader Georgia State (292-299=591) by just nine strokes and is only two strokes behind a three-way tie for second place involving Texas A&M, UCF and Baylor. Oklahoma, College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, Furman, Indiana and SMU round out the top 10 in the 17-team field.
Final round action at the 54-hole UCF Challenge is set for Tuesday morning.

UNCG 11th after two rounds at UCF Challenge, Taylor contending for Top 10
SORRENTO, Fla.? UNC Greensboro carded rounds of 303 and 304 on Monday to sit in 11t h place after two rounds at the UCF Challenge women’s golf tournament at Red Tail Golf Club.
UNCG freshman Courtney Taylor began the day with a round of 74 and followed that up with an even par 72 in the afternoon to sit in a tie for 11th after 36 holes, six shots off of the lead. Texas A&M’s Julia Boland was on fire in the morning with a round of 65 and sits atop the leader board at two-under 140. Her teammate Sarah Zwartynski is second, one shot back.
Georgia State leads the team scoring at 591, carding rounds of 292 and 299. Texas A&M, Baylor and tournament host Central Florida are in a three-way tie for second at 598, followed by College of Charleston and Oklahoma at 599.
Tuesday’s final round will be a shotgun start and the start time has been moved up to 8 a.m. because of the threat of inclement weather.

VALDOSTA, Ga..---The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s golf team struggled against a strong field at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga. There are 14 teams in the field ranked in Golfstat’s top 50 including the Mocs at No. 29.
Despite a shotgun start, the 18-team field could not complete the 36 holes planned for the day. The Mocs ended the opening round at 322 (+30), one shot ahead of Mississippi State at 323.
Chattanooga made it through 11 to 14 holes between the five-member team before the round was called due to darkness. At the time the round was called, the Mocs are still in 17th one shot behind Kennesaw State at 49-over par.
Junior Emma de Groot is off to a great start. Her even-par first round of 73 tied her for fourth individually, two shots off the pace set by Vandy’s Marina Alex, the nation’s No. 2 ranked player, and Tulane’s Samantha Troyanovich at two-under par 71.
In the afternoon round, de Groot’s two birdies and one bogey moved her to one under and into a tie for first finishing 13 holes. Emma is tied with Alex and Marta Silva Zamora of Georgia.
Junior Christine Wolf’s 80 was the second-best round of the day for the Mocs. Sophomores Moa Duf and Maria Juliana Loza shot 84 and 85, respectively, while senior Katie Taylor carded an 89.
The teams will complete the postponed second round in the morning before completing the final 18.

ASU Stands in Second at Campbell
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - After one round of Campbell's Fighting Camel Classic, Appalachian State University women's golf stands in second place out of 10 teams. Kerri Dice and Kristina Boo lead the team in sixth place after each shooting 77 through 18 holes.
Brooke DeHart is a stroke back in a tie for ninth place at 78 (+6).
Freshman Yue Xu made her Mountaineer debut with a 79 (+7) for 13th place and classmate Rumbidzai Masamvu carded an 82 (+10) for 22nd place.
As a team, the Apps shot a 311 (+23) and trail host Campbell, who shot a team tournament round record 292 on the day.
Fighting Camel teammates Sandra Angulo, Sarah Bejgrowicz, Belen Diaz Cisneros and Mary Mattson all shot one-over-par 73s to share the individual lead.
Presbyterian College and Towson are tied for third at 326, 15 strokes behind the Apps.
The 36-hole tournament concludes on Tuesday.
