Gravely Only ASU Wrestler to Advance to Day Two
OMAHA, Neb. - All three Appalachian State University wrestler's fell in the second round at the NCAA Championships in Omaha, leaving only freshman Tony Gravely, who will wrestle in tomorrow's wrestleback second round.
Gravely won his first round match over Liberty's Jonathan Childress, but fell to Arizona State's Anthony Robles by a 17-0 technical fall in the second round.
Gravely will face No. 7 seed James Nicholson of Old Dominion Friday morning.
Dylan Temple dropped his second round match, 8-3, to Boise State's Matt Capperson. Temple finishes his outstanding junior season with a 22-11 record, five pins and four major decisions.
Redshirt sophomore Austin Trotman fell in the second round at 184 to Ohio State's Mike Pucillo, 4-1. Trotman, the SoCon Wrestler of the Year, ends the year at 23-6, with three pins and six major decisions.
Bulldog Wrestlers Complete Opening Day at NCAA Championships
Omaha, Neb. - Bulldog wrestlers Turtogtokh Luvsandorj and Odie Delaney both completed two matches at the NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Qwest Center on Thursday.
In the opening session at 157 pounds, No. 12 Steve Brown was too much for Luvsandorj as the redshirt senior from Central Michigan bested the true freshman in a 12-1 major decision. At heavyweight, the rematch between No. 4 Konrad Dudziak and Delaney went in a 6-0 decision for the senior from Duke.
Luvsandorj and Delaney's losses sent them into the wrestleback consolation rounds that took place in the second session on Thursday evening. Luvsandorj squared off against senior Jarrett Hostetter of Millersville in an elimation dual and fell, 7-1. The Mongolian finished the season with a 26-12 overall record.
Delaney would also be forced to win to advance as he was paired with junior Jack Danilkowicz of Virginia. The sophomore lost a tough match in overtime, falling 5-3, and wraps his season with a 29-13 overall record after his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships.

Radsky Concludes Action at NCAA Wrestling Championships
OMAHA ? A third-period takedown proved to be too much to overcome, as Davidson’s Alex Radsky was defeated 4-1 by Sean Clair of Eastern Michigan in the first wrestleback round Saturday night in Qwest Center.
The loss eliminated Radsky from the double-elimination tournament. He finishes the season with a career-best 17-6 record, which ranks among the best all-time in Davidson history. Radsky was the first Davidson wrestler to compete at the NCAA Championships since 1999, and was the first to automatically qualify by winning the Southern Conference championship since 1969.
The first frame was scoreless, but Clair (21-14) took a 1-0 lead in the second with an escape after Radsky chose top. The two started from neutral and Clair was able catch Radsky with an early shot for a two-point takedown. Radsky was unable to get free until Clair let him up late. Radsky’s late attempts nearly brought him back in contention, but Clair was just able to free himself in the final seconds as Radsky nearly took him down. Clair was then awarded a bonus point for riding time.
Radsky was placed in the wrestlebacks after Ian Paddock (Ohio State) pinned him in the opening round. It was the first loss by fall for Radsky this season.
The NCAA Wrestling Championships will continue through Saturday.

Two Spartans still alive after day one of 2010 NCAA Championships
OMAHA, Neb. - Andrew Saunders and Byron Sigmon each won their first round match to advance into the Round of 16, but lost their next match to move into the consolation bracket at the conclusion of day one at the 2010 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Qwest Center.
Sigmon began his day by using a pair of third-period takedowns to score a 6-2 decision over Ian Hinton from Michigan State. In his second match, Sigmon was paired against the third-seeded Chris Henrich from Virginia. Sigmon tied the match up early with a reversal, but Henrich was able to pull away for the 9-3 decision.
Saunders also got off to a nice start as he recorded a first and second period takedown en route to a 7-2 win over Nick Knowles from Liberty. In the Round of 16, Saunders had to face No. 2 John Dergo from Illinois who defeated him by technical fall at the 6:27 mark.
Ivan Lopouchanski had a difficult draw at 141 pounds as he was paired with Derek Valenti from Virginia, who came into the championships ranked No. 20 nationally. Valenti scored a third-period takedown and was able to hold on for a 4-1 decision. In the consolation bracket, Lopouchanski was eliminated from the tournament by Purdue's Juan Archuleta, 9-4, who is ranked No. 19 nationally.
Victor Hojilla also had a rough day as he was pitted against a pair of top-10 wrestlers. He lost his first match by major decision to No. 9 Andrew Rendos from Bucknell. It didn't get any easier for the senior in the consolation bracket as he had to face No. 8 Shane Onufer from Wyoming. Hojilla led 3-2 after the first period, but Onufer rallied with a takedown in the second period as Hojilla fell 6-3 to be eliminated.
Saunders and Sigmon will return to action tomorrow for the second day of the three day event beginning at 10:30 a.m.

McCroskey Scores a Win at NCAAs
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga sophomore Jason McCroskey won his opening round match at the 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships today. McCroskey went 1-1 in the first day of action in the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.
McCroskey, competing at 184 and making his second appearance in the national tournament, scored a 5-2 decision over Central Michigan's Mike Miller for his first career win at the NCAAs. Miller was the runner-up at 174 in last year's championships.
After a scoreless first period, McCroskey chose down to start the second. He scored a reverse to go up 2-0. Miller tied it with a reverse in the third period, but McCroskey immediately reversed back for a 4-2 lead. Riding time added to the final tally and put McCroskey into the second round.
In his second match, McCroskey went up against No. 7 seed Joe LeBlanc from Wyoming. LeBlanc, an All-American in 2009, used a takedown, reverse and riding time to score a 5-1 win.
"Anytime you can beat a returning national runner-up, it is a big deal," stated head coach Heath Eslinger. "But we are not here to just get one big win, we want to be All-American."
McCroskey will take on Ohio's Nick Purdue in the wrestleback bracket tomorrow. McCroskey dropped an 8-6 decision to Purdue at the Hokie Open on Nov. 8. That was his first weekend of competition at 184 pounds.
"The reality is Jason now has to go win three more matches to be an All-American," added Eslinger. "I think he is capable of doing it, we just need to put together 21 strong minutes of wrestling.
Freshman Dean Pavlou dropped his opening round match at 149 to Edinboro's Torsten Gillespie in a 10-0 major decision. He ended his run at the championships when he was pinned by Navy's Glen Shorber in the wrestleback bracket.
