Corcoran, Castagno Named Men's Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford sophomore Cavan Corcoran and The Citadel junior Christopher Castagno have been tabbed the Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for all meets March 12-13. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

A native of Northville, Mich., Corcoran won the 110m hurdles at the Southern Invitational Friday. He registered a time of 15.20 despite a head wind.

Castagno, a junior from Sugarland, Texas, took the top spot in the hammer throw at the Palmetto Classic. His toss of 163'0" set a new school record.

The Citadel returns to action Friday when it competes at Coastal Carolina University's Shamrock Invitational. Samford travels to the Alabama Relays on Friday, March 26.

 

Other top field performers included:

Samford's Thomas Oliver, a sophomore from Birmingham, Ala., who won the javelin at the 'Southern Invitational. His mark of 207'0" was both a personal best and a school record.
