Elon's Nemec Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Elon's Philip Nemec has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches March 8-14 the league office announced Tuesday (March 16).  Nemec went 2-0 in singles competition last week and finished 2-0 in doubles play as the Phoenix earned conference victories over Samford (5-1) and Chattanooga (7-0).  The Player of the Week is awarded by the conference office. 

Nemec topped Samford's Zac Dunkle at the No. 1 singles position with a 6-3, 7-6 win.  Nemec then won his fourth straight match at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Chattanooga's Ryan Pool. 

The Calgary, Alberta, Canada native teamed with Cody Stauffer-MacDowell to clinch the doubles point in both wins last week.  The Phoenix duo topped Samford's Ryan Shidler and Joe Hunsicker, 8-5 before posting an 8-5 victory over UTC's Jackson Tresnan and Roberto Vieira at No. 2 doubles.

The Phoenix return to action Wednesday when Elon visits Radford.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included College of Charleston's Lukas Koncilia, The Citadel's David Orces, Davidson's Calum Gee, Furman's Chris Motes, Samford's Carson Kadi and Wofford's Paul Bartholomy.
